Ok here we go for the snail cookies!!
I use a pestle and morter but a food mixer processor would be quicker but messier.
These ingredients grind up to a powder...Dog treats any type{I used small bone shaped type} , cuttle fish {small amount} algae wafers , turtle sticks , fish flakes , cichid staple pellets..if you have anymore fish , turtle type foods add them . if you dont have some of the above leave them out this is just a basic guide..use what you have.
Put the above in a old mixing bowl..now the fun part..I use these ingredients but vary these if you like..
I added cooked veggies..carrots , broccoli , Frozen peas..mash these together with the powder..now add 1 raw egg..I also added kents liquid calcium and iodine few drops..it should now form a sticky dough if its to wet add more doggy stuff.
At this point you can flatten rounds shapes with your hand or use a bit of flour and roll it with a rolling pin put on a baking tray{dont make it thick} bake in the oven until its crisp but not burnt..it needs to be cooked well so it doesnt cloud your water with being too stodgy.
Handy hints..
The 1st time I fed this to my snails I put too much in so small pieces only say the size of a piece of chocolate and it also helps if you freeze them 1st.
I just take a cookie from the freezer snap a piece off and drop it into the tank.
When the cookie has absorbed too much water and looks like its going to float and break up remove it ..this could take 24 hours depending on your mix..you will get to know your own recipe very quickly and adjust ingredients when you make the next batch.
Instead of veg you could try fruit .
The next lot I make I am going to add some cooked wild rice { I know they love rice think of the destruction of the paddy fields they cause}
You can also add fresh crab to the veggie ones..I bought crab legs as its cheaper then I spent a hour digging the meat out..you can even add one or two chopped up prawns or even make halloween ones if you make a pumpkin lamp dont throw the inside away use it in your cookies its full of goodness my freezer is full of this stuff as everyone dumped their pumpkin middles on me seeds and all LOL..the possibilitys are endless and you can make them as cheap as you want and of course you have the bonus of knowing exactly what you little pals are eating and its all good stuff for strong shells.
Hope this helps drop some of this in and watch them scoff their little heads off..let me know how you get on with this..Linda
