While looking at the brine shrimp hatchery a few minutes ago, I realised there was something inside. A closer look revealed that one of the snails has managed to find its way inside the hatchery. I took the the hatchery out of the tank immediately and had a look on the snail. Couldn't decide if that salt water in the hatchery finished it off, but I thought there might still be a chance because it wasn't there earlier when I had a look. I decided to give it a chance, so I washed it with a little bit of tap water and put it back in the tank... Five minutes later, and it is showing signs of life. It was in the bottom and I was mainly worried about it not being able to breathe, but fortunately, it seems like I found it just in time.
If I ever thought that was possible, I wouldn't have put it in the same tank. I will move it to my other tank so this won't happen again. Just thought I'd share my experience with you all.

Hi there
Thanks for sharing that with us , I'm sure any one will think twice before putting that in their snail tank ... sounds like you found the little monkey just in time , just a side note though .... it would be better to wash the snail in tank water and I'm sure you would have done but the panic probably took over which I can understand but all the same I bet he's thanking you now for being so observant.
Let us know how he gets on ... oh and who are you lol?
Kind Regards
Darren

The snail was shut in its shell with its operculum closed, and I only washed its shell under the tap for about two seconds to get any salt off it, and put it back in the tank immediately. At the time I was also sure that it's dead, as I wasn't sure how long it has spent in the hatchery. I decided to put it in the other tank just in case it did survive... It opened up a bit and then I moved it to the other tank.
Then something strange happened, maybe you can explain that. I guess that moving it again got it a little scared, and it fell to the bottom and lied on its "back". The snail that was already in the tank the climbed on it and they spent a good few hours like that.
The snail that fell into the hatchery is fine this morning and is spending its time eating.

Hi
Well that is good news , glad the snaily is doing good.
Well one of two things happened there with the snail hugging the other one after it fell on its back , the other snail may have taken an opportunity and mated with the fallen snail or it is possible that it was just keeping it company while it recovered from it's salt bath ... might sound strange but we have observed that when we get an ill or a dying snail that quite often there is at least one snail that hangs around in the vacinity ... they have more intelligence than people give them credit for.
Cheers
Darren
