Bought 2 at petsmart... They *said* that they were mystery snails, but I always double check, because they mislabel stuff all of the time... Thanks for looking! I'm new with the snail thing, but I've wanted them forever...put them in with my 6" oscar...who is currently terrified of them... pg.photos.yahoo.com/ph/danipoo512/album?.dir=1490&.src=ph

;D Welcome Annabelle
We think its a Pomacea bridgesii...and he has picked up a little algae I would give him a clean with a soft toothbrush or leave him like he is if you are not bothered he looks nice and healthy...the fish you have them in with looks mighty scary and he looks to have a mouth that's just right for snail crunching...I would realy keep a eye on him he may be scared now but when he is used to them he may see them as food rather than tank mates..but Caroline will have a better idea...I dont know a lot about oscars but she will...glad you took the plunge hun to get snails they are wonderful entertaining little animals that you will loose your heart to...Linda

Hi there and welcome aboard!
I agree, that's a Pomacea Bridgesii, aka "Brig".
Pretty Oscar, too! I saw in your album that you thought Oscar had HITH? What has he been eating? What size tank is he in?
At 6" long, the Oscar is just a baby, not even a year old, and when he grows up/older, he just may look at the snails as a nice snack. Oscars, as you know, will eat anything! They also are very intelligent, and will play with pingpong balls and other toys you put into the tank with them, and even if he doesn't eat the snails, he may "play" with them.
I'd keep a very very close eye on O and the snails, and be prepared to move the snails to another tank.

thanks guys.
They are in a 55. I had those HITH photos up for someone to look at on another forum. I've had oscars forever, but oddly, never one with HITH til this guy. I've had him since he was just at an inch long. My last O died of old age, we assume, since there was nothing obvious wrong with him. Had him for 8 years, and he was 4 when we got him. So he was 12 when he died.
He's got junkloads of filtration, and I do a 25-35% water change 2x a week. He's now on some medicated pellets and a few other things from the advice of someone on the oscar forum. His normal diet consists cichlid pellets, shrimp, and every couple of days frozen blood worms or plankton.
The oscar is moving to a 75 in 4 weeks, and the snails will be staying in the 55. They are doing fine so far. The oscar hasn't even gone near them except for to look. But I'm going to keep watching. They are actually just about his mouth size right now...When I put them in, he was angry, but didn't bother them. I figured if he was going to eat them, he'd have done it by now, at night, while I wasn't watching. But he hasn't, and his mouth is plenty big for them...if he gets suspicious looking, I can put them in my roomates 20 until the oscar moves to the new house.
Thanks again ;D
