These guys are fab....when i got them (thanks hubby) they didn't look red at all...mildly orangeish. But now they are really red....much redder than in the pic and I can see some eggs on a female. ;D Bad news though.....my pygmy corys have to move out of my tank into my hubby's community tank because they will eat shrimp babies.

Cherry shrimp will be ok with canas I reckon but they do like a heavily planted tank.....they like to eat the micro organisms on the plants and need to be feed lightly. I think if you've had plastic plants in the tank for a while there should be goodies on them for the shrimp to nibble on. They also like to hide in the plants at first to calm down from the stress of the whole lfs thing. Then they colour up from a see through pale orangey colour to a nice bright red. Apparently males don't colour up as good as females. I keep my cherries with brigs, nerites and a bn plec in my 21g planted with cabomba, java ferns and moss balls.
Cherries are tolerant to a wide range of PH's and are doing well in my tank. I've lost 3 so far but that was within the first few days of buying them.
When they breed the babies are "born" as mini vesions of the parents (so no larval stage) and are vunerable to being eaten by fish (even little corys) and filters have to be baby shrimp proof.
I also keep tiger shrimp but that's a whole different ballpark. My spixis spires are eroding due to the lower PH they need so i'm going to have to sell those spixis off cheap lol.
