Yeah we're dead excited , having aproblem getting hold of peat though believe it or not .... we'll sort it though. We've cleaned up a spare 2ft fish tank with sliding glass shutters on the top that we had spare from one of my imense buying junk sprees LOL .. so he'll have plenty of room in there to roam about and do his thang , hopefully going to get him a friend soon to keep him company so the 2ft tank should be ample enough for 2 .... Emma would Nokia appreciate orniment type things to crawl over and under or would he be likely to not bother with that kind of thing? Can't wait. Darren

Hi Darren, generally gals will burrow in the peat, and this is their favourite hiding place, so u should put enough peat for the height of the snail at least! As far as ornaments go, its best to be careful not to put anything hard in there, because snails sometimes have a tendancy to fall from the lid of their tank. Obviously they dont have water to cushion their fall so they could hit an ornament and crak their shells. (this is more the case when they are larger) having said that, and overturned flower pot (plastic) would make a nice hidding place for them. Just avoid stones and cermamics. This is another reason for keeping peat in the tank as it prevents any nasty falls. another point.. it is best to put food in a plate. a plastic one would be best. This is cuz if food gets dragged into the soil it could encourage fruit flies and other nasty little parasites that live of rotting food. I dont have this problem myself but I have read of several people with fly epidemics cuz rotting food remains in the tank! i use one of those cheap plastic picnic dishes. I hope u will love nokia as much as I love my babies!

Oh my, you must be over the moon! Please post pics of Nokia when s/he gets there!
Oh, and if you're needing Peat, I have gobs of it here. Could ship it if you like.
Try Garden Centres. Look for bales of Canadian Peat Moss, with NO additives. Should run you about 3 pounds for about 1-2 Kilos, or a 1' x1' x 1' bale.

Well here are our first pictures of Nokia in his mansion lol , yup we got some Irish Bog Peat which was £5.99 for 100 Litres (what ever that is in Kg .. bloody heavy anyway.) And this one is a long shot of his mansion , we've not quite finished it yet .. got to get a new hood and some other minor bits and pieces. We'd like to put some real plants in there but does anybody know what kind of plants would grow in Peat?? We're chuffed and we hope Nokia is too. Daz

Lovely! He's a real cutie!
Most potted plants will do "ok" in peat, as it holds moisture, and is acidic.
You might want to place some clay pots with plants and soil INTO the peat, just buried so you can't see the pots. Be sure and NOT overwater, as the peat will go soggy if the pots overrun.

;D Nokia looks Great and happy in his new home!! If you put real plants in with him do not forget that you have to allow for a total clean out of the peat once a month, or you may end up with horrid white mites in it!
How about plastic plants then when they get thoroughly slimed and manky you can give them a good wash, No change of sir eat a lot munching on them then either.
Stinkie sends his love back !! he is living on cat food as I will NOT let the GALS get fed to him they are just so cute, Trouble is I am gonna need a huge set up for 16 gals!!! Take care, xxxxxx (for Nokia)
