Hi, If I could get these, I would have. One of the big problems with Achatina snails is that it is almost impossible to get most of the varieties. I mean, there are a certain amount of regulars kept by the community that you could get hold of if you were prepared to wait for them to be bred etc. I spoke to the owner of that site, Yuri and he told me that he was just lucky to find the odd type here and there, and I think it was easier to get hold of things in Eastern Bloc countries before Europe was expanded. And sellers rarely know what they have, so any rare type is overlooked and you'd have to drop lucky. Usually, it is the other way round, both me and Emma have bought various snails to have them turn out to be fulica a number of times. Then there is the problem of identification. Some sites give one name to a snail, others give a different one, before you get into the actual identifying characteristics. I've have been looking incessantly and in general you will find are: Lissachatina fulica Lissachatina panthera Achatina achatina Achatina albopicta (although could be reticulata wrongly identified) Achatina dimidiata Achatina iredalei Achatina reticulata Achatina smithii Achatina stuhlmanni Achatina immaculata Archachatina degneri Archachatina marginata Any others of which there are a handful I've only ever heard of a one person keeping them. And the above is taken from people all over Europe. I have pictures of most of these, check them out on: www.petsnails.co.uk/paul

Hi,
I forgot to mention. Sarah does usually have loads of snails, they come and go. I think she had 1300 at one point but now she has a lot less.
They tend to be fulica as she takes unwanted ones in. Because 99% of snails are fulica and they breed like crazy there the ones in need of rescuing. I think she may get the odd few that are unsual coz I know she's mentioned owning various types in the past.
