Hi all, Can you tell me what temperature you keep your tanks at? I plugged in the heat mat today to start warming it up and so far it has reached 79F, it may get warmer I don't know yet.

79F is considered a reasonably hot tank, much past that is probably too hot. You probably don't need the mat. If you're mat only covers 1/3 to 1/2 of the tank and the temperature is 79f then I assume your room is probably warm enough without the mat, seeing as mats only raise the temperature by 2-4 degrees C.
If your room temperature is 21+ they will do fine without. You can just use the mat in Winter or when it is needed.
Having said that, 79f is fine and they will grow well. Let me suggest you get a timer and knock the mat it off at night, at least during summer. That will simulate the natural drop in temperature of 1-4 degrees C in the wild. It's an idea anyway. Just keep the tank nice and humid, as a hotter tank will suck more mositure up and hot air can hold more anyway.

Hi All, Paul, The room which the snails will be in is about 72F at night, so I think I may well do as you suggested and I'll just unplug the mat - make them feel they are still in Africa!!! The heat mat didn't go any higher than 79F but if the weather starts to warm up I won't need it on at all.
