Hi Emma, Thenks so much for telling me how to prepare the oats, I shall definitely try them on that. My query is how would it be if I made the porridge with milk?? can they have dairy produce? What about cheese??
Thanks a million,
Val

hmm now im not sure about snails and milk, which is why i have never added milk in the snail porriage. I am guessing that many cheeses would not be good as they have a lot of sald added to them. chedder for exam tastes quite salty and we all know that snails and salt are is a bad idea as for non salted cheeses i have no idea... maybe paul would know. At this moment in time i dont put dairy products in my snail's food merely because I have never heard of people feeding snails dairy. thats why

Hi,
When I use porridge I didn't cook it like normal, I tried that but they wouldn't eat it. After Emma mentioned porridge oats on here again I gave it another go by just soaking in cold water. And they loved it!
As for dairy products, I wouldn't feed them milk, cream or cheese. Apart from the salt I don't think it is natural enough. I mean, 1/3 of humans suffer from lactose allergies, we haven't evolved enough to stomach them and we've been eating them for 1000s of years. Perhaps small amounts would be ok, I mean snails sort of scavenge really. Our pet ones are spoiled, the garden ones get what they can I imagine. But I do think excessive amounts could be bad news.
The problem here is that who wants to try potentially bad foods? And, there is no way of doing a snail health test. It may seem harmless but who knows over time?

yup, i aggree with that! personally I am not willing to put my snail's health at risk on the basis that they "may" be fine with dairy. I dont think many people would wanna use their pets as "guinea pigs" my snails do love water porriage thou. really goes down a treat with them!
