Heh, I was on my way to work this morning, and yanked on the brakes of the bike so hard I darn near did a headstand........
I've been sortof keeping an eye out for some native landsnails, and lo and behold, I just about ran over one! I immediately grabbed this one up, found something to stick him into, and took him to work with me, where he was set up with some sliced strawberry, fresh peas, and a couple of leaves of lettuce, in a closed container. He's the prettiest little thing, with a striped shell, and the body is gorgeous. He didn't come out all day, but now that I'm home, he's in a temporary critter keeper, with some nicely wet coir and some veggies and fruits. As soon as he smelled that coir he was out and about. I'll snap a pic a little later, but I think I've got him IDed as a cepaea nemorialis aka Banded Wood Snail.
LOL I've officially moved from geekdom to freakdom, according to the girls at work. I've also conscriped them to keep their eyes peeled for more of these guys.

awww wonderful! There's just something special about snails you find where you live. Im not sure why...I think it reaches an inner child in yourself, reminds you of going out exploring and finding everything from "cool" rocks to interesting bugs...and snails of course! Somehow they give me a sense of peace that the beautiful exotics can't.

AWWWWWWWWWWWWWWW!!! ;D
Im such a sucker for tiny snail species! What a beaut! Funny how tiny snails are meant to be the normal ones, and the GALS are mean to be unusual due to their size...but the GALS are SO popular that the tiny snails have become mini snails. And I love ANYTHING mini...soo....hehe, I do understand the cuteness of his tiny size. ;D
Edit: forgot to add, he's Cepaea nemoralis. ;D
