I started out with ten pygmy corys.....I now have seven and i've never seen the poor things eat....the LFS I got them from said they would eat fish flake but they wouldn't eat that or anything else.
Today I went to my LFS again and chatted to one of the guys there and he suggested live tubifex worms and I thought "Urghhhhhhh" but he promised me they wouldn't change into some weird creepy crawly and for the sake of my corys I thought "Ok, i'll try em". My corys loved them!!!! They were eating them like spaghetti and my snails soon took over and gobbled em up but i'm so happy my corys ate! My cana and spixis also loved them. ;D
I've half the worms left and I have to keep them in the bottom of my fridge...yuck...in a sealed container until their next feeding. I'm just so pleased they ate. ;D ;D

What about maggots, you can get large ones, coloured ones and tiny ones called "pinkies". They are relatively cheap and even when they start to turn you can feed the "castors".
I imagine there are very few fish that will pass up a grub like this. And surely they are cheaper than more specialist items. It'd cost you about 50p for a mug full.

Be really careful with live tubifex, they can carry all sorts of nasty things including parasites.
A better bet would be live bloodworms or blackworms. Even frozen/freeze-dried tubifex aren't totally safe.

I hope the tubifex worms will be ok ....the guy in the lfs said he uses them in his tanks with no probs. I'm a bit of a scaredy cat when it comes to bugs and worms so the bloodworms turning into mosquitos, maggots becoming flies etc put me off big time. The corys loved them....I don't know what to buy for them now....I could go back to trying non-live foods but i'm around 90% sure they aren't eating it. They are only young with little mouths and it was such a joy to see them eating. Do blackworms turn into anything gruesome? Cheers Janet
