Wow we are well chuffed , one of our Viv's have birthed two baby Viv's and they are sooo cute. I was beginning to think that we'd never get babies but no the little momma popped two out and there may be more in the coming days .... exciting stuff indeed.
I'll add pictures soon in the photo section.
Cheers

Congrats!! ;D
I've been thinking about getting vivs for a while now but was told they don't thrive in warmer waters but i've seen one on ebay that is described as being fine in tropical tanks so I might go ahead and get a couple when she posts some actual photos of the stock.
I can't wait to see your baby vivvies. ;D

Happy New Year to your lot too......my pc broke mid december and I wasn't able to get a new one til last week. I trust your experience with vivs more than any eBay seller and I can't set up a coldwater tank (I've already got a 21g and 2 x 10g tropicals and hubby has a 26g) so i'll prolly have to wait until we move to a bigger place. Keep me on your list though lol.....you never know I might be able to squeeze in another tank somewhere. ;D Janet

Guys you should post this info on applesnail....it will make for very interesting reading. I don't think i've ever heard of such sucessful viv breeding. You deffo have that perfect balance that people are trying to figure out. There's an idiot (no names mentioned like) that insists vivs can be kept at 28C......I don't even keep my brigs, cana and spixis at those temps, let alone a species of coldwater snail. I've been trying to persuade hubby that it's a great idea to have a coldwater tank on the top of our fridge freezer. ;D Janet

Janet, the top of the fridge isn't a good spot, as the heat from the coils rises, and will make the tank warm. I keep mine in an unheated, roon-temp tank. Not coldwater, per se, just coolwater. The apt temp is about 70-72, which is fine for them.

Yup indeed , I know what idiot you are on about ..... and that idiot had the cheek to tell people BS about me and my stock ... pfftt makes me laugh.
Caroline you may have a point there , dunno if all fridge/freezers are the same but I don't think ours gets warm on top ..... but that doesn't mean others don't.
Our cold water tank is just kept at room temp and the little monkeys are breeding like mad .... I've never seen anything quite like it LOL.
Janet I'm sure you can squeeze a nice little tank in somewhere , you've got a few months to work on hubby though as I think Viv's are slow growing and the weather will be better for posting out then also.
Cheers

Yeah the top of the f/f stays cool but after chatting to hubby the water changes will be a tad difficult (picture me climbing all over the kitchen counters lol) and the water weight might not be such a good idea too.
I'm soooo tempted by eBay.....there's baby vivs on there now...99p each and they look so adorable. My 10g tanks are set around 21C (70F) and my 21g is set at 24C (75F). I can just picture them scooting around on the sand. Eeeek I dunno what to do.

Is 99p per snail a bit dear? I haven't a clue when it comes to vivs......i've been after vivs for over a year now and i'm a bit antsy to get them.
I'm after 5 of them.....so if you think you'll have 5 within the next couple of weeks i'll wait. I would much rather get them from you if you'll have them.
I mailed the eBay seller earlier in the day cos her p&p thing was messed up (it said £17.45 p&p lol for 5 snails so I didn't complete the transaction).

I wish I knew where to go to find snails.....I used to have a net when i was little and have done some bass fishing in canada a few years ago. I was meant to do some ice fishing while I was there but chickened out when I discovered we wouldn't have a hut to fish from but instead drive a big old car onto the ice (the ice makes cracking noises apparently lol). Awww cheers for the offer......I hope she aint reading this but I would much prefer babies from you both. Let me know when you want payment. Janet
