Thank you Emmachan ;D Whaaaaaaaaaaat?!?! I just read your little bio post Daz, sense WHEN were you into reenactment? Seriously!? COOL! I love medieval reenactment, been looking for a group in Scotland to join that do Scottish/medieval reenactment. Ive been working with the Bo and Sword with the grand master I had over the last few months, trying to get in as much practace as I can because im worried practace on my own won't do me much good I love how an instructor corrects you and points out where you leave yourself vunerable to attack. Might have to check local Martial Art schools for an instructor, I can practace the empty hand stuff on my own me thinks, and weapons interest me more anyway (hope to add on more when I get these two down). ;D Aww heck, I love reenactment so much I squired for a group that does jousting. I wanted to learn to joust too, but they didn't have the time to teach me and I coulden't get out there beyond the festival hours. Only got to squire once, but I adored it, and love the medieval festivals (looking for them in Scotland as well) I would love to do demos and shows with a group doing sword fighting and stuff in costume! I doubt I will ever have my own normal sized horse, though if I had a choice it would be a clydesdale or those horses that look like clydesdales but have paint/pinto markings. I actually had this beautiful idea of John having a Clydesdale and me having one of those pinto/paint clydesdales which are a bit smaller, and us going riding together. *sigh* nice idea but doubt it. BUT...im going to be working my bottom off raising the money to bring my miniature horse Pegasus across to Scotland when we have a place to put him. I want to cart train him if the folks looking after him now don't do that already, and have a brilliant idea for developing the idea of "chariot jousting" where you joust with the mini horse pulling the "chariot" trying to catch rings with the lance. Pegasus looks real built for it, and he isn't spooked easily. ;D I know I know, but hey, just because we can't ride them why should we not allow the mini horses to joust too? Oh, sorry Daz, im a medival scot, not a viking. Now I understand what you meant by the drinking horn Aye! Giv' me ae goblet ae whisky, pass 'er over! hehe, just kidding!

LOL CC
Yeah well it's a long story really , where I used to live there was this biker/viking type personage that lived 2 doors away. He's around 13 years older than me , anyway as a kid I used to go round his house and watch him draw ... he was amazing at drawing fighters and monsters etc. Anyhow as I grew up he used to use me for practice in his back garden , of course I shite myself to start with but then I lost the fear and got stuck in ... that was my initial introduction into it when I was 15/16 years old.
Well he moved away to of all places 'Scotland' and that was that until he came back when I was 24 years old ... he was still doing his reinactment but now he was king of his house if you will , he'd worked his way up and was top dog of that particular group. Anyway I started hanging out with him again and he took me to one of their shows , well his crew took one look at me and said 'Oh my god , are you joining' .... well after some gentle persuasion I chose my shield and hand axe and began training.
Within 1 month I had passed the basic fighting tests and was allowed onto the battlefield , I was soon branded as their berserker / shield wall breaker ..... I was 18 stone and could run faster than all the lightweights there ... lets just say no shield wall was safe. On the battlefield at shows I was starting to defeat highly ranked fighters , I myself couldn't move up the ranks so soon after joining but I was looking good for becoming a major player/actor at the shows the following year ..... even looked promising for some film work as the higher ranked fighters /actors had starred in stuff like braveheart etc ... so naturally i was quite excited about it and I was looking forward to climbing the ranks to be second command ... something that took my mate nearly 10 years to do I could have nailed in 2 years which would have then given me some major organisational powers etc. Well I went to Ireland to a big show there , it was fantastic and I was getting a real buzz from marching through the streets of a small village all in armour .... there must have been 200 of us LOL .... it was funny alright ... but ... that was my last ever show.
A few months after that show I became ill , I'd still love to do it but unfortunately it's all a fond memory now .... of course our house was devestated because they no longer had that advantage of shield wall breaker ... yeah there were bigger men than me there but they didn't have the speed so the impact was much less .... I kinda lost touch with them , I was no use to them anymore I guess .... I've still got my axe and shield though lol.
So yeah a brief glimpse into my Viking world , oh how I miss the nights stood around the camp fire singing viking songs and getting drunk on mead .... LOL .... marvelous.
Cheers
Daz

And now the viking raises snails, what an ending. Nothing wrong with that though! That's great you got to experience that Daz, it really does give you a great buzz. Heck I get it from doing Kata's, working with my Shinai and Bo, and just goofing around with the jousting knights, they were a laugh! Got it on video tape somewhere as proof, hehe. No idea when I will be able to get into reenactment, but i'll be keeping an eye out. In the mean time hopefuly me and John can enjoy practacing together with the sword and bo. Sorry you got ill and can't get back into that, but hey! That's why I love festivals, loads of different people at different ages and skill levels and limitations, illnesses, doesen't matter really! We're all out there doing something to be part of the past for the day in costume, armor, carrying swords and axes around. ;D It's really odd you guys did that in Ireland, I listen to traditional irish radio a lot (sense I can't find Scottish) and there's quite a few songs saying how the Vikings came and caused them a lot of problems. Hmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm.
