O.K. Buy sachets of powdered gelatine (6 in a pack) cost about 92p, then cook small amount - about 6ozs of any veg you like, I used spinach and also broccoli, mash it up, mix in 1 sachet of gelatine and let it set. Cut up small and feed to snails. This can also be frozen. I also tried the baby food idea i.e. microwave contents of 6oz jar of veggie babyfood, stir in 1 sachet of gelatine, let it set and feed to our snailly friends. My snails absolutely LOVE these little jelly cubes, they wrap themselves completely around them and nosh away!!!! Do let me know if you decide to try it. Oh, you can also add crushed up fish flakes if you want.

Hi Val
Thanks for that , I'm sure they'll go down well and we will be giving it a try soon ... I'll make this a sticky because I think it's a great idea.
Cheers

I use it often and have added spinach, calcium, crushed up algae wafers etc. Just about any aquatic food you have handy can be added. I also use an old coffee grinder to grind up the algae wafers etc.

Off I went today to Tesco and all I could find was sheets of Fine Leaf Gelatine. It tells me to soak the Gelatine for 5 mins in 2 - 3 tablespoons cold water then heat the remaining liquid (1 sheet pet 1/4 pint liquid) and then mix with gelatine water. This confuses me, lol. I promise I'm not a naturally stupid woman but I'm worried I do this wrong Basically do I cook my veggies, mash em up then use the water I cooked em in to mix with the gelatine before adding mashed veg OR do I just mash the veggies and mix the gelatine direct with that? I figured the best place to put it to set is an ice cube tray, that way handy sized portions already made, lol. TJxx

Hey gang, you can probably get gelatine in bulk either at a dedicated Bulk Food shop or in the jam/jellies aisle at the grocers/supermarket.
I got unflavoured gelatine in bulk at a Canadian chain store called the Bulk Barn. Cost be about 1/10th the price of the little packets!

Knox gelatine should be available there. It's made by Kraft Foods. I don't know what "brand" the bulk stuff is.
If you like, I can get some and pack it up and ship it over.

Do you think agar-agar would work ok instead of gelatine? Made of seaweed...It's much cheaper here than gelatine.

Kat, yes AgarAgar would work. It's also high in protien, so that works well as well.
