I wonder if anyone can give me some information of these snails please? 1st, I have quite a lot in the fish pond outside, I usually not bothered about them and I "think" they multiplied just like that. There are millions in the fish pond now. I heard that they are the best algae eaters, I am thinking to bring a few in the fish tanks and watch them grow. So are these snails harmful to my other water snails. I have one tank full of different colour of Apple snails including the babies, will the Trapdoor snails disturb the Apple snails habit at all? Other question is I know Trapdoor snails produce babies that just come out and eat straight away, no eggs or anything. So will my tank just keep on multiply with these kind of snails? I have only taken 4 of them in and put them in a fish bowl at the moment, I have already seen 4 babies snails came out from nowhere within a few hours. Last, do these Trapdoor snails okay to live with in the Newts tank? Will the Newts bother about them at all? Hope someone can answer me the questions. Thanks.

Hi
Trapdoor snails are great and will not harm any other snails , they are very peaceful.
Now Trapdoors will live in warm water but they don't really like it , they won't grow much and ours never gave birth in warm water. They do much better in cold/room temperature water , since ours went into their own cold tank they have spawned loads of bambino's and they are growing well.
As for the newt tank , not sure about that ... I really don't know a great deal about newts ... I'm sure that there will be somebody on here that will give you an answer on that part though.
Cheers

Thanks Daz, I might put them into the goldfish tank then. But the temp in the goldfish tank is still not as cold as outside fish pond though. The 4 I took in are so fascinating, that's why I wanted to see if they are okay to put in the fish tank. Newts do not like warm water temp at all. So the temp is ideal but only need to know if both of them are compatible. At least have to think that the Newts do not eat or disturb these snails.

LOL our goldfish would bloody eat them but there again our biggest one is close on 10 inches , if your goldfish have been brought up with snails then they might be okay but the bambino Viv's would be an ideal and very easy snack for a goldfish LOL.
Yeah I'm not sure if Newts would eat them , someone will come on soon though and will know for sure.
Viv's in my opinion are the cheapest and easiest snail to keep , you don't need a heater so that doesn't load the electric bill and an 18 inch by 12 inch by 12 inch tank is more than enough for half a dozen Viv's ... I just have mine set up with a sponge filter that runs off air and I vaccum once a week. Happy as Larry they are , got to sort out more tank space soon though because the many bambino's are growing nicely but at least the tanks are cheap to run.

I have some apple snails in my goldfishes tank and the goldfishes are the fantails, orandas stupid things. They are only about 6 inches in length, so I "hope" they will not eat these snails, but the one I wanted to put in are the adults one, they are 2 /12" shell length (estimate). I don't know about the babies, just checked on them earlier, there are 6 babies in the bowl, I hope they do not multiply that fast all the time or breed like ummm snails. ;D Now come to think about it, I might just go to the wholesaler to get a fish tank (got the trade for that, so brand new fish tanks aren't expensive). Problems might be solved. *Still want to know about the newts and snails, wish someone will come and give me an answer soon. *

How cute is your smallest newt to pose. ;D Right that's it, I am trying them with my newts tank and see if they are okay before I go and get a new tank for these Trapdoor snails, although I think the goldfishes might be okay with they as they are living with some of my apple snails for years anyway. Thanks Sian.
