wel i dont have any snails yet, i will hopefully be getting some ramshorns for christmas if the tank needed cleaning, the snails would need to be taken out although if there was a filter the tank wouldn't need cleaning out would it haha (i think i had a blond moment yesterday...sorry)

you'd only change 10-30% of the water each time and vacuum the gravel with a gravel vac (available at all good aquatic stores) as you want to keep the water conditions stable (constant) while changing the water completely every time gives completely different water conditions
you'd need a filter else you'll be doing 20% water changes daily, more if you have fish with them
you'd need de-chlorinator as well to get rid of the chlorine as it's bad for fish and snails
hopefully some one else could give you better advise, no offense to you, just im in a really funny mood atm

do snails like to be handled?

Again, that will depend on the kind of snail. Ramshorn could refer to Marisa (Giant Columbian Ramshorn) or the smaller Planorbid ramshorns. It's generally not a good idea to handle any Ramshorn snails, due to the structure of the shell in relation to the body. They're "tall", "tippy" snails.
Best for handling are Pomacea species, like Brigs (bridgesii) or Canas (Canalicula).

I've gotten some Ramshorns and was wondering will they survive in tropical tanks or would they be better in cooler waters?
Thanks
