I own about 8 planorbids, and they are laying eggs, but the eggs ARE NOT HATCHING and turn cloudy/misty instead of the usual clear color. They are all over the bottom of the tank. What can I do?
Also, my snails die so quickly, about 2-3 weeks if I get lucky. I have seen from other websites that they can live up to 3 years max, so WHY? I feed them fish food and keep them in a 1 ft by 1/2 ft tank with 1 fish. Theres gravel at the bottom and water plants at the top.
Another thing is that they have white, bleached cracks on their shells like eroded craters on the moon, ever since I left the tank uncleaned for a month, what is that and why is that and how to solve it?? Is it a lack of calcium/protein?
Thanks!

the cracks on their shells are definite signs of a lack of calcium.. crushed corals or eggshells will suffice, or if you're willing to pay, Snailstrong liquid calcium is good.. Anyway, what fish is in there? Some might eat them or very much disturb the snails. As for the eggs not hatching, i'm not really sure.. I've kept ramshorn snails in a tiny 70ml (yes seventy mililitres! it's damn cute)bottle and he's really active, with eggs hatching and all.. I do a water change daily.. maybe your water's parameters the problem? Does it have copper or chlorine? Do check to ensure there's none of it..
